OUTREACH SPECIALIST

The Telecommunication, Information Studies, and Media (TISM) Department is seeking
qualified applicants for a fixed term Outreach Specialist to work with grant‐active
faculty in support of awarded research projects. Responsibilities primarily involve
working directly with research partners across the State of Michigan to facilitate
reaching underserved populations through technology and media to improve the state’s
economy and retrain its workforce.


The chosen candidate will serve initially as a lead contact for a recently‐awarded multimillion dollar, multiyear grant project to disseminate computers to libraries,
community centers, and other public locations across the State of Michigan with the
purpose of expanding broadband / Internet access. In addition to working with over 200
public locations across the state to install and instruct on the use of more than 2,000
computers, the TISM Outreach Specialist will coordinate meetings, travel and other
activities, as well as ensure timely submission of grantor and other reports related to
the project. Further, this individual will oversee and monitor activities such as
purchasing, compliance, compensation for research subjects and/or partners, and other
matters related to the project in conjunction with the CAS Accounting and Research
Team office.


Desired qualifications: Bachelors degree in Telecommunication, Information
Technology, or related field, Masters degree preferred; plus 3 years administrative
experience in a research context.

DIRECTOR OF GRANT DEVELOPMENT

This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness and is primarily responsible for proactively pursuing grants and contracts that address institutional needs, enhance College programs, and/or support scholarship and teaching. Title: Assistant Controller, Sponsored Programs Administration

Job Duties and Responsibilities: The Assistant Controller has system responsibility to develop, implement and manage accounting policies and procedures to support post award sponsored programs activities, as well as ensuring compliance with University policies and applicable federal and state laws and regulations. The Assistant Controller must also maintain awareness of changes in legislation and accounting standards, and
determine their potential impact. This position manages the preparation of the Facilities and Administration cost proposals for the System's four campuses.

Supervising a staff of two professionals and collaborating with campus sponsored programs staff of 20-30, this position must develop and implement methods of effectively communicating necessary information to faculry and staff in managing and accounting for grants and contracts funding. The successful candidate must demonstrate effective communication at all levels within the research community, University System and with external firms, federal and state agencies and regulatory bodies.

Job Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: The University is seeking an individual with at least seven years of increasingly responsible managerial experience in post awards accounting including sponsored programs administration, and a BS degree in accounting, finance, or business administration, A MBA/CPA or related advanced degree is preferred. In addition, the successful candidate will need extensive knowledge of applicable federal regulations, policies, and procedures and laws applicable to lIrant and contract activity, including OMB Circulars A- 21, A-110, and A- 133. Previous experience at a large research university, exposure to PeopleSoft, and success in implementing systematic change initiatives are preferred. Strong leadership, managerial and interpersonal skills along with superior written and verbal communication skills are extremely important.

Position:                     Assistant Director, Foundation and Grant Programs

Classification:            Administrative Staff (full-time)

Description:               The Assistant Director is responsible for assisting the Office of Foundation and Grant Programs to secure government and foundation grants that support the academic and strategic priorities of Carroll University. This individual reports to the Director of Foundation and Grant Programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a working knowledge of Carroll University, particularly Carroll's academic and funding priorities, in order to articulate compelling cases for support in grant proposals.
  • Use search engines and databases to identify federal, state and foundation grant and contract opportunities to meet Carroll University strategic priorities.  Provide regular grant opportunity summaries to the Director and respond to research requests from the faculty, deans and the Provost.
  • With the Director, work with interested and appropriate campus personnel to develop conceptual framework, work assignments, and writing timetables for proposals.
  • Assist the Director with writing assignments (proposals, letters, and other documents) as necessary, often under deadline, to support the submission of federal, state, and foundation grants and contracts.
  • Prepare grant proposals for submission, including preparation of attachments and supplementary documents and use of electronic submission platforms. Maintain electronic and paper records of all grant submissions.
  • Work with faculty and deans to help prepare grant budgets and assist with budget narrative development.
  • Maintain the Foundation and Grants intranet site, providing regular updates to content and fielding faculty inquiries.
  • Monitor grant reporting schedule, provide post-award report writing support to faculty, and work with the Controller and faculty to ensure timely submission of reports, continuation applications and other non-financial report documents.
  • Staff and supervise projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 3 or more years demonstrated success in grant writing.
  • Experience in higher education or nonprofit organization preferred

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Able to work independently and in coordination with intra-university groups to produce proposals and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent writing, thinking, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail, curiosity and resourcefulness.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Suite, and experience with electronic grants submission strongly preferred.
