Who Should Join?
NCURA was formed to bring together those who serve in research administration capacities, primarily at colleges and universities. Today, the membership encompasses a growing circle of professionals who have interest in the issues and policies affecting research administration, and those who are interested in the unique research expertise represented by the organizations in Region IV. We welcome those in sponsored programs, research development, university/college administration, teaching hospitals, research-related government officials, and other research administration fields.
Why Volunteer?
Region IV relies on the strength of its membership to help fulfill NCURA’s mission. Through your volunteer efforts, we offer professional development opportunities where colleagues share their knowledge and experience on a variety of topics with members who are new to the profession, new to their role, or just wanting to stay current with our constantly changing environment. New members and new volunteers bring fresh ideas and a fresh perspective to both the Region and the profession. We invite you to share your experience! Volunteer at a conference! Present at our annual spring meeting! Join a committee! Get involved! Our success depends on you!
Who Are We?
Presently, we are 1,169 strong, with research administrators representing the states of Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Our regional membership has grown steadily during the past 10 years, from 691 members in that year. That growth continues, as the number of members who first joined NCURA since 2009 is fast-approaching the number that joined in the nine-year period from 2000-2009! Region IV is also an enduring organization: our oldest member first joined in 1966, and 13 percent of our current members have sustained their participation since joining before the millennium.
The majority of our members work at colleges and universities, but there is healthy representation from research institutes, industry, non-profit health organizations and hospitals and vendors who provide products and services that enable us to work efficiently and effectively.
